Program Description

P.E.A.C.E. Program for Children and Youth Experiencing Violence is a prevention, education, advocacy, counselling, and empowerment program that provides individual counselling, group work, awareness and assistance to children who have experienced violence. This program also offers “The Violence Is Preventable Project” which teaches violence prevention strategies in partnership with schools to ensure children and youth who have been impacted by domestic violence or bullying receive the support they require.

Who can use this program?

This program is free and available for any child or youth who have been exposed to any form of violence.

How do I use this program? Do I need a referral?

Anyone can refer either by phone, or a referral form can be completed and sent by email or fax. Once the referral is received, the program coordinator will contact the referring person to do an assessment. If the child or youth fits the criteria of CWWA then the coordinator will schedule an appointment for an intake with the parent or guardian of the child or youth.

What services are offered?

The child or youth will typically attend for 8 to 10 sessions. If needed, a re-assessment will be completed with the guardian to determine if further support is required. The program uses a psycho-educational approach to help the child cope with their feelings of anger, sadness and frustration and to assure the child that the violence is not their fault.

If a child or youth is showing serious symptoms that may require clinical support then a referral will be made to the appropriate agency.
