Program Description

Chiwid Transition House provides a safe haven for women and their children who have been physically, sexually and/or emotionally abused.

Who can use this program?

Support is provided to all women and their children.

How do I use this program? Do I need a referral?

A referral is not needed to get service, there is someone available 24 hours a day.

What services are offered?

A 16 bed unit which provides a haven for women and their children who have been physically, sexually, and/or emotionally abused. The Transition House provides counselling, education and support for women and children.

Service available for women include:

  • One to One counselling
  • Support groups
  • Sharing Circles
  • Education on the Dynamics of Abuse
  • contracted therapist
  • Presentations by staff and/or community services on various topics

Services available for children include:

  • Individual assessment & counselling
  • Recreational activities
  • Education on non-violent behaviour
  • Educational videos, toys and books
  • Day care worker
  • One to one and group counselling for children who witness abuse

a) In-house Group meetings
b) One-to-one counselling sessions with contracted Therapist

Chiwid House offers shelter where you can discover your strengths and regain your self esteem; support information and advocacy for your rights and choices that are available to you; counselling assistance with legal, financial and medical matters; food and clothing and resource information and referrals.
